Excursion tips

Do you find the village too boring?! There is a lot to be discovered and experienced in the surrounding areas too:
  • Plan de Corones… the mountain, which gives the region its name with the Concordia Peace Bell!
  • Town of Brunico and Brunico Castle: Brunico Castle thrones above the town on a hill. Currently, the fifth museum of Reinhold Messner, the MMM – Messner Mountain Museum RIPA - is being realised in the castle. It is envisaged that each year guests from a different mountain region of the world – Sherpa, Indios, Tibetans, Mongols, Hunza - spend their summer in the MMM in order to talk about their way of living. The opening is planned for 2011. 
  • Bergila in Issengo (Falzes): Ethereal oils have been distilled since 1912 and is in the 3rd generation in this family. 70 different types of herbs are grown in the herbal garden according to strict regulations for organic production. These herbs are harvested at the right time, dried, and packed as tea, or realised as oils, tinctures and other herbal products. 
  • Panoramic platform on Gitschberg: The panoramic platform with a view of 500 mountain peaks of the Dolomites, the Zillertal, Stubai and Ötztal Alps provides a great adventure! Nature as the protagonist! 
  • Specialised markets! Looking, negotiating, and buying! Brunico: every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the bus station Farmers' market in Brunico at Graben Street: June to October every Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Farmers' market in Falzes: July-August every Thursday evening Bressanone: every Monday Bolzano: every Saturday Stegener Market in Stegona, the biggest and most renowned market in Tyrol at the end of October - Flea markets in South Tyrol
  • Bressanone and Novacella Abbey : You should visit the abbey with Collegiate Church, the Stations of the Cross and library in Novacella near Bressanone. In the town of Bressanone you can find the Hofburg Castle, the Diocesan and Crib Museum, the Dome and wonderful shops.
  • According to the ADAC leisure time atlas the Museum of Ethnography in Teodone is one of the most beautiful outdoor museums in Europe. The open-air area shows old farm houses and handcraft rooms which provide an insight into the various types of houses and farms. In the Mair am Hof manor, the centrepiece of the museum, several collections from religious and profane art like pipes, straps and zithers are exhibited.
  • Fortezza Fortress was built in 1833-39. The fortress is named after Emperor Franz I. of Austria, and was the strongest fortress in Europe.  However, battles never took place at the fortress. The fortress was soon antiquated from a technical point of view and still characterises the surrounding landscape. The fortress is accessible with a guide.
  • Castles… Tures Castle, Casteldarne Castle and Rodengo Castle can also be visited!
  • Works by wood carvers and sculptors can be purchased at Verdorfer in Terento and Maranza, in Falzes, and in the studio of Heidi Leitner in the Sonnenbergstraße Road in Terento.
  • Excursion to the Aurina Valley... in the Crib Museum Maranatha in Lutago/Aurina Valley you can admire artistic cribs from various countries, gothic farmer rooms and wood carving art across 1900 m². s In S. Giovanni you can visit the Minerals Museum treasures of the Alps and the biggest cairngorms in South Tyrol.
  • Discover the highest mines in Europe… in South Tyrol! The highest mines in Europe lead to an underworld, to the darkness of the galleries, where the life of miners and their families depended on the pit lamp. Predoi Mines with health gallery
  • Waterfalls can be admired in the Gilfenklamm gorge near Vipiteno and in Riva di Tures! Gilfenklamm is the only gorge worldwide, which is deeply cut into purely white marble. 
  • Tisa balls, mountain crystals, and a variety of minerals are exhibited in the Minerals Museum in Tisa. During the summer months children can look for minerals with Paul Fischnaller!
  • The Puster Valley offers the most beautiful and romantic alpine lakes: Anterselva Lake – Braies Lake – Dobbiaco Lake.
  • Dolomites & Dolomythos: Dolomites... A UNESCO World Nature Heritage site. A must see during your South Tyrol holidays are the Three Peaks, South Tyrol's landmark. All information on the Dolomites and the rock formation can be found in Dolomythos in San Candido.
  • The history, language and culture of the Ladin population is explained in the Museum Ladin Æiastel de Tor in S. Martino in Badia.
  • Ötzi, the 5,000 year old glacier mummy can be admired in the Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano. Worth a visit in Bolzano are the fruit market, the town arbours, the Museum of Modern Art, and Walterplatz Square in Bolzano.
  • For a day excursion we recommend an excursion to Caldaro Lake, to the spa town of Merano with the Botanic Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, the Passer promenade and the Thermal Baths, to Venice, to Lake Garda or to Verona.
